Membership

HOW TO REGISTER

Membership shall be opened to Genetic Counsellors (certified), Genetic Counsellors (in the process of certification), Genetic Counsellors (graduates), Genetic Counselling students, Clinical Geneticists and Oncogeneticist.

Every application for membership shall be proposed and seconded by two existing members and shall be forwarded to the Secretary who shall at the first convenient opportunity, submit it to the Committee for approval. The Committee may at its discretion reject any application without assigning any reason thereof.

Every applicant whose application has been approved as aforesaid shall, upon payment of the prescribed membership fee, be admitted as a member of the Society and shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership. A university or university-college student shall not be eligible for membership without the prior approval of the Vice-chancellor of the university concerned.

FEES

The entrance fee and subscription payable shall be as follows:-

a)      Entrance fee RM 10.00 (Ringgit Malaysia Ten)

b)      Life membership fee RM 500.00 (Ringgit Malaysia Five Hundred)

c)      1-year membership fee RM 100.00 (Ringgit Malaysia One Hundred)

Membership fees shall be payable to the Treasurer in advance within 30 days of the first of each year.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

There are four categories:

a) Ordinary membership

For individuals living in Malaysia that holds a relevant degree or professional qualification in genetic counselling or clinical genetics and primary work is or has been related to providing genetic counselling. Ordinary member who has paid their dues have a right to vote in Society elections.

b) Associate membership

For individuals living in Malaysia who are students enrolled in a postgraduate course in genetic counselling or a trainee genetic counsellor under training in Malaysia. Associate members do not have a right to vote in Society elections.

c) Corporate membership

Organisations in Malaysia with a professional reason for participating in the Society’s activities and with their aims consistent with the aims of the Society. Corporate members are not entitled to vote.

d) Overseas membership

For individuals living outside Malaysia that holds a relevant degree or professional qualification in genetic counselling or clinical genetics and primary work is or has been related to providing genetic counselling. Overseas member do not have a right to vote in Society elections.
